The Living Room

The Living Room is a LGBTQ community center that focuses on fluidity of space, material and circulation unit, individual experiences to create an embracing and liberating environment. My partner, Michael, and I wanted to create a space that mixed the social aspects of a gay bar with the clinical and personal benefits of a LGBTQ center. Our space consisted of a more public downstairs area that encompassed a gallery, a cafe/lounge, and a performance space. Upstairs we created a more intimate and private lounge exclusively for members of the community. Upstairs drew on more historical and residential design motifs, bringing in the fluid and curved lines and feelings of the Art Nouveau era.
